Graduate Technical Computing Engineer

A unique opportunity now exists for a highly motivated, creative and versatile individual to join our team of technical computing engineers. In this role you will be responsible for the design and maintenance of a suite of in-house engineering software. The role also includes installation and administration of a wide range of commercially available software packages to support our design engineering team.
Successful Applicants will be involved in all stages of the software development process for bespoke applications. This will include capturing the user requirements, creating mathematical models of physical processes and implementing a software solution for the end user. Typical applications include lens design, thin film coating design, test equipment control, CNC interfacing and measurement analysis.
The main duties with this position will include:
. Designing, documenting and maintaining in-house engineering software
. Developing mathematical models of physical processes
. Liaising with our information technology department on systems issues pertaining to engineering
. Maintaining bought-out engineering software and configuration control tools
. The specification and configuration of new PC hardware for engineering users
It is essential that all candidates have the following:
. Experience in software development
. Excellent understanding of physics and mathematics
. Knowledge of Windows and computer hardware
. Experience in at least one high level programming language
. Good written and verbal communication skills
Candidates will require as a minimum a good degree in Physics (or related mathematics or engineering discipline).
The successful applicant must have experience of developing software in a high level programming language (e.g. C/C++, Fortran, C#, VB.NET or Java).
A training and development plan will be created specifically for the successful applicant to enable them to deliver solutions of the highest standard.
